A day in the sun
Friday, February 1st, 2008What’s better than a beautiful sunny day in Oregon? Spending that day with friends skiing perfect powder. Very cold, wet weather brought huge snows to Oregon in late December and early January with some ski resorts getting over 100″ in just two weeks, much of it true powder, a rarity in the Pacific Northwest. With hoards of people flocking to the resorts, Brian, Trev and I decided it would be a good time to avoid the rush and earn a few turns. We met up with Mike near Portland and headed to the hills.
From Portland, we could see a “fuzz” around Mt. Hood from the hurricane force winds blowing snow off the mountain. As we started hiking, though, the weather was cold, crystal clear and wind free, a perfect day. We wound our way up a trail, scouting a couple slopes as we went, then started hiking up through the trees and traversing back to one of the better looking runs.
